Storytelling not telling Stories!

Studio Hansen is an independent design studio based in Zurich, founded by designer and art director Heike Hansen. Working at the intersection of strategy, design and storytelling, the studio develops brand strategies, visual identities, editorial publications and communication concepts for cultural institutions, organisations and brands.

With a background in editorial design and a strong interest in people-centred approaches, the studio views design as a process of research, questioning and interpretation. Every project begins with an understanding of its context, the people involved and the ideas behind it. The resulting visual language is characterised by carefully considered concepts, typography, materiality and attention to detail.
Studio Hansen prioritises collaboration over simple execution. Open dialogue, integration through design thinking methods, shared curiosity and mutual trust form the basis of the creative process. Depending on the scope of a project, the studio collaborates with a network of specialists from various disciplines.
Alongside digital design, the studio maintains a close relationship with traditional printing techniques. Letterpress, screen printing and experimentation with paper and colour offer opportunities to explore the physical properties of visual communication.
In addition to her work at the studio, Heike Hansen works at the F+F School of Art and Design in Zurich and leads workshops focusing on design thinking, creative processes and strategic development.

Heike Hansen worked as a graphic designer at studios including Fons Hickmann, Matthias Görlich and Aquilas, where she specialised in communication campaigns for major cultural institutions such as the Semperoper, the Technical University of Munich and the Goethe-Institut. At Aquilas, her focus was on the strategic direction of start-ups. In addition to graphic design, her interdisciplinary approach is also reflected in her work as an artist. She studied at Mainz University of Applied Sciences, Burg Giebichenstein and the ZHdK.
